Chimney Inspection in Nashville, Tennessee

Camera survey of the full flue, graded to the CSIA levels, with the footage shown to you rather than described.

Nashville's Chimney Sweep connects homeowners across Middle Tennessee with licensed, insured chimney sweeps for chimney inspection. Estimates are free and written, the price is agreed before work starts, and the workmanship is backed in writing.

What the job usually involves

Every property is different, which is why the estimate comes after somebody has actually looked at it rather than before. What does not change is the process: assess, explain the options in plain language, put the scope and price in writing, then do the work to that scope.

Why homeowners call

The reasons people get in touch.

  • Smoke comes back into the room
  • Sharp smell from the fireplace
  • Birds or animals in the chimney
  • Water staining round the hearth
  • Cracked or missing chimney crown
  • Damper stuck or will not seal

What is included

What chimney inspection covers.

  • Camera survey of the full flue, top to firebox
  • Graded against the CSIA inspection levels
  • Liner joints, cracks and gaps identified and located
  • Crown, cap and flashing checked from the roof
  • Damper, smoke shelf and firebox condition
  • Clearances to combustible material checked
  • Written report with the footage
  • Priced repairs for anything found, with no obligation

Chimney Inspection, in practice

A visual inspection tells you what can be seen from the two ends. A camera inspection tells you about the thirty feet in between, which is where the failures that matter actually are — a cracked tile, a separated joint, a gap where the liner has pulled away.

Level 1 is the annual check on a system that has not changed. Level 2 is required when a house is sold or an appliance is changed, and includes the camera. Level 3 involves opening up the structure and is rare. We will tell you which you need rather than defaulting to the most expensive.

We show you the footage. A report that says "cracked flue tile at 14 feet" and cannot show it to you is asking for trust it has not earned, and chimney work has a long history of exactly that.

Clearance to combustibles is the check nobody asks for and the one that finds the genuinely dangerous installations — framing timber hard against a flue that has been getting hot for thirty years.
