Chimney technicians serving Nashville also cover Franklin, Brentwood, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville; the routes run through 65 towns in 12 counties. The houses are not the same in any two of those towns, and neither is the chimney sweeping work:

• Nashville. Pre-war chimneys are unlined or clay-lined with a century of use, and the inspection usually finds a liner conversation; the brick at the top is soft and the crown is often gone.
• Brentwood. Eighties and nineties houses have masonry chimneys with cracked crowns and prefab units past their service life; the camera tells which repair is real.
• Murfreesboro. The 2000s houses have factory-built gas fireplaces that need a different inspection — the vent, the logs and the valve — and a sweep who services gas units is the right one.
• Hendersonville. Seventies and eighties houses have the first prefabricated fireplaces, and the inspection checks the metal flue and the chase cover, which rusts through and lets water in.
• Columbia. Pre-war chimneys are unlined or clay-lined with a century of use, and the inspection usually finds a liner conversation; the brick at the top is soft and the crown is often gone.
• Lebanon. Rural houses burn wood as heat, not decoration, and the flue is swept more often; a wood stove and its pipe are inspected on the same visit.
